Apple adds new emoji to the iPhone, iPad, Mac, and other devices regularly based on updates made to the emoji catalog by the Unicode Consortium, and there are seven new emoji we could see sometime in late 2024 or early 2025 .

The next emoticons under consideration include a face with bags under the eyes, a fingerprint, a leafless tree, a root vegetable, a harp, a shovel, and splashes.

The Unicode Consortium today opened the Unicode 16 beta preview period, which includes the new emoji symbols. The beta period runs until July 2, after which Unicode 16 will be released and the new characters will be officially approved.

It often takes several months for smartphone manufacturers like Apple to create artwork for new emojis that are approved, so it’s likely that we won’t see these new emojis until after the launch of iOS 18. Apple will likely add the new characters sometime around March 2025 when iOS 18.4 comes out.

Apple last introduced new emoticons with the iOS 17.4 update, which was released in March 2024. Symbols added in iOS 17.4 include lime, edible brown mushroom, phoenix, broken chain, nodding head vertically (as in nodding yes) , and horizontal head shaking (no head shaking).
